OUR STORY
Zero Mile Gardens CIC was founded in Exeter in 2023 to set up and support chemical free, environment-friendly vegetable and fruit gardens in our local communities.

Our work developed from a passion for growing food that is good for the people and the planet with zero or as little food miles as possible, and from an eagerness to participate in building a better environment and a fairer access to healthy food.
We believe that food makes community, and that the community needs to have agency in the food it grows, access, share, and consume. That is why we are growing with the community beautiful and bountiful gardens that respect wildlife and the planet.
Through community gardening, we aim at increasing the communities’ skills to access and grow their own food. By working with liked-minded people and organisations, we aim at supporting food sovereignty and environmental justice.
We believe that change can happen by working together at the local level. We are proud of St Thomas and Westexe where we’re based. We also love working in other neighbourhoods and towns, always eager to learn more about different practices and experiences

We are currently working at Emmanuel Hall in partnership with the Theatre Alibi to develop a bountiful garden and a sustainable food growing hub for our local community in St Thomas.
We dream of developing a network of food growing spaces in our city that also feeds the city’s soul. If you would like to get involved or share ideas, write to us!
