Meet our team
Clémence Scalbert
FOUNDER & DIRECTOR
I have discovered the pleasure of eating food straight from the garden at my grandparents’ farm in the North of France. Redcurrants and raspberries, parsley, lettuce and shallots still bring back powerful and joyful memories spent as a child in my grandmother’s vegetable garden and kitchen. Moving to Exeter, I discovered Devon’s food, local produce and producers, attempting growing food on an allotment myself. I later trained in in organic horticulture at School Farm CSA in Dartington, in community gardening through the Gardeniser programme and volunteered and worked as an assistant grower on a local organic farm. A big part of settling in Exeter and making it my home has been played by St Thomas Community Garden which I have been running for several years, working to grow both food and community, with neighbours and fellow residents of the city. I had the dream of seeing more growing and vibrant places in our community and set up Zero Mile Gardens to do that.
Maresa Bossano
DIRECTOR
I have been involved in the community and local food sectors for over 20 years. This has included managing the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Network UK; running a local, organic, vegan café Moose’s Kitchen; coordinating the Food Co-ops project at Sustain and working with schools and hospitals on the Good Food on the Public Plate project. I have been vegan for 30 years and have worked as a chef in vegan and vegetarian restaurants since I was sixteen. I also have a Plant-based Nutrition Certificate from the Centre for Nutrition Studies at eCornell. I am the founding director of LOVE FOOD CIC and run the Food Hub on Cowick Street
James Cresswell
SECRETARY
I am an ex-professional ecologist with thirty years of service as an educator-scientist at the University in Exeter. At ZMG, I help with various tasks including financial oversight. I believe truly that ZMG has a bright future in Exeter, which is small enough to connect folk with shared interests. Rosemary is my favourite plant and autumn is the season most precious to me.
